Well someone on the Ubuntu support forum solved the problem. My app is working now. For anyone interested, here is the solution:

sudo wget http://winezeug.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/winetricks
sudo mv winetricks /usr/bin
sudo chmod 777 /usr/bin/winetricks
winetricks allfonts fontfix
