Serial Ports

I've spent the past few hours trying to figure out how to get wine to see my Crystalfontz display. I've been able to get a Linux native to communicate with the module, but so far I've had no such luck with wine.

I've found a few different solutions researching this. I think some of the suggestions are old and probably not relevant anymore. I'm using wine-1.1.15 on Fedora 10.

One suggestion said to configure ~/.winerc and win.ini. I wasn't sure exactly what to do with win.ini as there were only vague instructions. I tried a few different things.

One suggestion said that I needed to edit the registry to make the com ports visible to applications. I've been unable to add those keys to the registry. I plugged it directly into system.reg and the changes just get deleted. I can't add them through the registry editor either, as the subkey is not volatile.

I then found that I needed to make a symlink in ~/.wine/dosdevices pointing to the serial device. I did that, but still the lcd test app fails to detect the device.

I'm not sure what else to do. I'm running out of pages on Google, and the local search on this forum just revealed more information about making a symlink.

Is there something else I need to do?
