It's marked "garbage" in the appdb, because the installer doesn't run without quite a bit of tweaking. But anyway ... I want to get MSN working in Wine. It's for my girlfriend's daughter, whose XP box just got trashed by a virus/rootkit (spread via MSN, of course). So we've saved her stuff and we're nuking and paving the box. I would like to use Ubuntu instead of Windows, but she flatly insists Pidgin and Trillian are awful to use and she wants genuine MSN and nothing else. Using wlsetup-all.exe (the complete 134MB installer package), in a clean WINEPREFIX with wine-gecko 0.9.1, the installer doesn't run at all until I do "winetricks msxml3". Then it comes up with a dialog box: Couldn't install programs Please try installing Windows Live programs again. Error: OnInitDialog: 0x80070717 Next steps: An unknown error occurred When you hit "close", Wine crashes: err:progress:ProgressWindowProc unknown msg 1408 wp=0000 lp=00000000 wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000110 at address 0x8ab3bba (thread 0027), starting debugger... Any ideas on next steps regarding the above? - d.
