You will almost certainly need the latest Xquartz release candidate - it's got *much* better OpenGL support. Xquartz 2.3.3 RC2 is the newest version - it's still not in the final release stages, but it's getting close:

  http://static.macosforge.org/xquartz/downloads/

If you're building X from MacPorts, you should be getting semi up-to- date stuff as well. You'll likely want to configure a Wine virtual desktop via "winecfg" as well, as full screen apps can cause issues with the X server.
