Let's be realistic.  You say 'how much'.  Look at Microsoft and get a
feel for how much they spent to make the original.

Now, let's say you want an application supported, like WoW or simular. 
I say 'buy Crossover' or 'Crossover Games'.  Why?  Because CodeWeavers
supplies a lot of the code for Wine.  They do a really good job and
Crossover supports many of the productivity applications, and a few
early Windows Games (like dOOm) very well.  Crossover Games does a very
good job of supporting later games.

Now, if you want to donate directly to Wine, visit the web page, click
on the Donate link/button and go from there.

You can also support Wine by giving of your time.  Look at the
unconfirmed bug reports and work with them.  Vote on bug that affects
your favorite program after confirming it exists on your system. 
Lastly, if you are a programmer and have not read through any of the
Windows code, then you can help by programming to fix a bug or two.
