Diablo II is rated platinum. Did you have a look in the appdb? [1] I for myself run Diablo II: LoD on Ubuntu 8.10 and do not experience any problems. Might not help you in any way :P Just wanted to give a proof that it can run with wine. Maybe you should pastebin the output of wine.
