Are you new at using computers or the internet in general, too? Your distro's support forum = go to your distro's website and check if there is a forum available. For ubuntu, www.ubuntuforums.org is a very good one. If you can't find one for your distribution, try a Google search on more generic Linux forums. In any case, when it comes to Linux or Linux distro-specific problems there are more people able to help you at the right forums. Now, about editors: there are tons in Linux. Try running gedit, leafpad, kate, kwrite... You're bound to have one of these installed on your system by default. Another tip: you'll probably have to edit some configuration files as the super user (= an "unrestricted" user that can do everything on the PC). You can access super user (= root) rights by either typing "sudo <your commands>" in a system like Ubuntu, or by typing "su" in most other distros to access the root account and be able to do anything. Both of these have to be done in a terminal/console.
