Which version of PageMaker are you trying to use? Can you reproduce the problem (and the success with the earlier wine) with the 30 day free tryout version from http://www.adobe.com/products/pagemaker/ ? BTW, you might be able to use one of the Ubuntu shell scripts described in http://wiki.winehq.org/BuildDependencies to install a lot of the build dependencies. Try http://kegel.com/wine/hardy.sh, for instance. Some of the packages might have different names or versions, but I bet a bunch are the same, so it's worth a try.
