ok, this may be a major problem if it is linked. I am hoping and think that most likely it isn't liked but at the same time that steam chat works, one of my partitions was wiped taking a lot of linux with it, thankfully nothing fundamental. The partition that went was my DATA partition with all my programs and documents. I don't think this has anything to do with wine but if anyone else has the same problem it may be worth looking.
