The "$" symbol represents the prompt of your shell, it's a character, which obviously stands at the beginning of the line and cursor blinks at the right of it, to indicate that you can type commands. Please reenter it, without copying that character, i.e. starting with the "sudo" (without double quotes) word. With regards, Pavel Troller
