Are you trying to run wine as root? If this is the case, then don't! Also it seems that either you have not a running instance of X server, or probably you have it running for another user. For example you are logged as user Joe, and in the graphical environment you started console, made yourself root there and trying to start wine as root. Please, try running wine again as regular user, and report back. regards Plamen
