Have you tried using winetricks to install it? If I'm not mistaken, all it's doing to install it is extracting a cab file to a location on your wine's drive_c and then adds that location to the registry to point to it. However, I have seen many apps crash directly after installing gecko. This has usually been because of the unimplemented BITS stuff for the apps I was using though.
