To make it work I installed MDAC with Dan Kegel's winetricks script from http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks. After the installation it was required to set manually the ODBC driver registry keys for the Microsoft Access Driver. I figured it out by comparing the ODBC registry branch of a native Windows registry with Wine. AppDB contains a howto http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=8869.
