In the terminal type this without quotes: "wine install my_win_program" Replace "my_win_program" with the exact name of your own executable. Also, as related footnote, Linux almost always has software to do what you want without having to resort to Windows stuff. Admittedly, however, there are exceptions so on to your question: Synaptic Package Manager will install your Debian/Ubuntu packages for you and, in the process, take care of prickly things like dependencies. Click the menu System > Administration > Synaptic... and you can then select for installation or removal the programs you want, including Synaptic. Don't forget to click the green check mark to finalize. With regard to your attempts so far, you'll need to fix or remove any botched wine install. In your case, if you've only just finished the Ubuntu install, I recommend start over. Do a fresh install of Ubuntu then install Wine, forget Wine Tools and such, and go to the forums for help with command line installs. Good luck.
