EVE Online support

Hi,

as seen the Eve online support improved in the last time.

The problem with that is that these things are only workarounds atm. So
the next step should be that these hacks get improved so they can become
real patches which are accepted by AJ.

The current patchfile can be found at http://elfe.mine.nu/eve/linux/

So basicly some facts about the current EVE status:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3028 workaround possible with the
bash script that manualy creates the directories
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4872 workaround for Nvidia users
in the patchfile (there where several proposed fixes for this bug on the
patch list)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5168 workaround in the patchfile
(added some cleanup stuff in the _Reset function but there are still
resources bound after completing the function and the strangest thing is
that returning an error seems to work better for Eve than returning OK)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5169 a workaround is also in the
patch (makes the window managed and allows managed windows to be moved
like unmanaged) a lot of changes in that area seem to be required
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5171 no workaround

Other issues found ingame so far:
- the warp tunnel seems to be very bright/same as mobile warp disruptors
(the warp tunnel also appears instantly) the logserver also write
indicate warp as soon as you click so I guess the tunnel is hidden and
made visible when the real warp starts
- sun is not occulled by anything
- the cursor change is broken (resize isn't indicated)
- some stations seem to cracks in their glass shield
- some text blocks are white
- audio is working (need to turn master volume to max)
- the logserver is writing tons of supertime reset msg
- the game crashes at some locations (osmeden planet 9 moon 6 station
for example)

Some things that might help with debugging:
First of all the Logserver which can be very helpfull to find problems.
Just start the logserver and create a new workspace (CTRL+W) under wine
before running Eve. When you run Eve with the logserver you get a lot of
information written in there. (don't share the logserver files with
someone as they might contain login details) The current log can be
cleaned up with CTRL+DEL.
The second thing that might be usefull is a small monitor window.
(CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+M) It shows basic things like network and traffic mouse
coordinates. (It also works on the login screen)
Last but not least the basic FPS graph with CTRL+F. (produces a lot of
fixme)

An other positive thing that might lower the barrier of working on Eve
is that I got 2 testserver accounts that can be used without any
signups.
(they are testserver only and are active until the database is mirrored
from the live cluster again, then I have to ask to recreate themm
contact me via IRC if interessted)

http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVE_3913a.exe is the download link for the
full client install. (the installer seems to hang at the license but
continues after some seconds) or go to www.eve-online.com and select eve
download on the left if you don't trust email links.

In hope for better Eve support

Karsten
