With the help of some good people on #winehq over at irc.freenode.net ,
the Toyota EPC is now working perfectly. I should have installed it
properly through Wine rather than trying to run it from the installed
directory on the NTFS volume. It's so obvious really that I feel stupid,
but this is an old Win98 app and I didn't consider it, completely
forgetting that the paths were then wrong what with the virtual C: drive
etc.

So, there seems *not* to be a font problem per-se.

NetSupport Manager OTOH does not display any of the controls in the
right-hand pane of the configuration window, as you can see in the other
image url in the original post. There should be textboxes, checkboxes,
and radio buttons there. I have for now just moved over a working
configuration file from my Windows XP laptop.
