Accessing the parallel port through wine is extremly inefficient: I have heard of people with 2 Ghz CPUs were the speed of the parallel port was still a lot slower than on windows. I have tried on an old Pentium 233 MMX and an AMD K6-2+ 500. Parallel port access is slow, CPU usage is at 100%. Parallel port access speed scales with CPU speed. I'm using the parallel port for an EPROM burner. EPROMs that should be burned in seconds take minutes.
