I tested trillian 3.1 (the freeware) some days ago and got similar problems. 
Using several Wine versions and dll configurations didn't really help. So I 
guess you won't get it working.

If you still want to give it a try you can:

- test whether the use of native dlls solves your problems (look at: 
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wine-user/config-dll)
- use various wine versions
- install it with Wine or Windows, whatever you didn't already ;-)
