the point is I'd love to avoid having to use a native commctrl.dll, that is linked with native comctl32.dll...
While it appears a bit daunting at first, it is relatively easy to compile and install Wine. Make sure to uninstall your current Wine first.

The change to the source to modify the version is trivial, so give it a try. It is fine to modify your local Wine; lots of people do that. It is just that the change is not really acceptable for a general Wine release yet.
