[Wine]sound on debian

I have wine 20040716 on a debian installation. The sound is working for normal
applications e.g KsCD to play CD's.
Presently I have three windows based programs running with wine. FreeCell,
IrfanView and CClient.
The later is a Chess Client to play chess over the Internet. All three
programs operate properly, but CClient needs a sound feedback when a piece is
moved. Unfortunately there is no sound output. KMix is set to have all
outputs and inputs at max level.
I also installed alsaconf and had it go through the installation sequence.
I am at a loss what else I could try.
I have a second computer running Mandrake10.0, also with the same three
programs running with wine. There, the sound works fine.
Any suggestions?
John
