Thanks for your input. However, as I said, I tried all three of the methods from Frank's Corner (install-ie6.sh referenced from Frank's Corner's IE6 page, and the other two methods listed there). All of these methods already set that mshtml in DllOverrides. At least, they set it in the [AppDefaults\\iexplore.exe\\DllOverrides] section.
In case you meant that I had to set that in the main DllOverrides section, I tried that too (after repeating method 1 from scratch), but still the same result... just a white web page area whenever I type in a URI.
What DID work, however, was to take the warning seriously on the install-ie6.sh page, namely that it ONLY works with wine-20031212, and ONLY built from source. So here is what I did:
(this was on RH9; I will be trying it on Fedora Core 1 later today)
download Wine-20031212.tar.gz to some directory (fully expanded and compiled will take about 500 to 600 Mb)
tar -xvzf Wine-20031212.tar.gz
if you don't already have them, you will also need to install XFree86-devel...rpm, freetype-devel...rpm, fontconfig-devel...rpm from your install CDs or from a Redhat mirror
follow instructions in the user guide (mainly just tools/wineinstall)
run the install-ie6.sh script
at the end of that script, it starts IE6 for you, and at this point it worked.
After trying numerous different versions, including 20031212, from the RPMs, and getting very frustrated after a day or two of hair pulling, the above worked for me. But like they always say, your mileage may vary.
