It works absolutely fine if you just do what you can find on Frank's
Corner. Look here for Office 2000 or Office 97:

And notice that you need to take wine-20031212 or perhaps older
versions. All never versions until now have drawbacks that make them
unusable with the famous apps you want to use. I use very successful
- Office 2000 (with all apps)
- Notes
- IE6
and many games and other apps with wine-20031212.
