I dont know if it works with diablo 2 but you could do it as described
here
http://appdb.codeweavers.com/noteview.php?noteId=76&appId=897&versionId=1177
for me it works. The script is pretty easy,
my one looks so

cd '/home/seelenfeuer/.wine/c/Program Files/War3'wine war3.exe -- -openglsleep 10rm war3.exeln -s war3_orig.exe war3.exe
sleep 20
rm war3.exeln -s war3_nocd.exe war3.exe

i think this is quite clever ;) But maybe the described version is better.

Thanks for the tip -- but I swear this is what I try to do. I still get
the segfault. Linux version: Fedora Core 1, Wine version: tested with
20030911 and winex 3.1. Does the moving of symlinks actually work for
you? If so, what version of linux & wine are you using?

Im using wine20031016 on a gentoo 1.4 system with an 2.4.2 kernel. I only
got it work with warcraft3 (i altered the script to test it cauz my opengl setup
doesnt work yet, you need to load warcraft3 with the -- -opengl option, i.e.
wine war3.exe -- -opengl) i didnt put my hands on d2 yet. But in the core
i think those 2 games are very similar (at least theyre by blizzard :D ;) and
it should work for both.
Good Luck!
