Have a look at this page http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia It should help you to get programs working in wine, it has instructions on how to start windows programs with wine using KDE, so you don't need to use a shell. It's a always better to use rpms instead of source, if you don't have a good reason to compile the source yourself, so you can be sure that wine was compiled properly.
