Would it be possible if you could summarize the steps you followed to get it to work?
Sure.
I am using knoppix( debian ) an foxpro 6.
1. I uninstalled the older version of wine that came with knoppix.
2. I installed the latest release of wine from http://winehq.org/
3. I created a directory called "c" in my home directory ( do this before you run the installer )
4. I decompressed the tar.gz in /usr/local ( opening up all permissions in there ) using the command tar zxvf
5. I went into the wine dir that resulted from #4 and ran ./tools/wineinstall
6. When the installer asked me to create a "c" directory I typed the path is suggested in. Do not hit the space bar expecting it to fill in a default, it wont. Type the path in.
7. I downloaded the foxpro 6 runtime from: http://www.bucek.info/free.htm
8. I installed the foxpro 6 runtime by typeing in "setup.exe" in the shell
9. I mounted my vfp 6 cd as root, and copied the vfp98 dir to /home/steve/c/Program Files/. I then chmod -c -R and chown -c -R that dir.
10. I opened the file /home/steve/.wine/config in a text editor
11. I went to the section with "[Version]" on top. I uncommented the line starting with "Windows =. I then changed it to Windows = "nt351".
12. I then went to my vfp98 dir and ran the command: wine vfp6.exe
13. For some reason it locked the first few times I did it and then it came up.
Good Luck
Steve
