I'm trying to get matlab to work on my FreeBSD 4.8 machine. I had it working fine last week, but something changed; I'm not sure what.
When I do enable the glx module in XF86Config, the matlab main window starts to come up but never gets completely drawn, and wine reports the following errors:

with that last error repeated over and over; meanwhile the scrollbar in the matlab window jumps all around.
Seeing the glx errors, I enabled the glx module in my XF86Config, but then I don't get the main window. Instead matlab exits with a "Failure loading desktop class" error. I checked the mathworks website, where it says that this error is sometimes fixed by installing a new java engine. Which I did, on the Windows side, but it didn't change anything.
A few days ago I tried to install jre1.4.1 on the freebsd side, but never got it to work -- could this be the problem? I've also installed KDE3.1 since the last time matlab worked. I have tried reinstalling wine and matlab, but no change. This is frustrating since I know it worked last week.
Thanks for any help.
