Playing with various wine settings, I end up with situation where Gw2.exe would crash in Updater screen after downloading 8 MB update. There was no real indication what is causing it. After trying many things, solution was to move ~/.wine/user.reg out of the way and start with fresh user registry. Side note, it looks like GW2 will work with nvidia's twinview.
