Hi, im just interrupting 3 years later having the same problem and after renaming the client registry blob and letting steam reinstalling it still didnt work but went into c:/program files/steam and right clicked on steam exe, chose open with wine and then it worked. have created new steam account and now in the process of updating flash (ugh).
