If you don't know how to compile Wine you could add PPA to your sources list and then you will be able to upgrade to wine-1.4 Ubuntu Wine Team (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa) Open up terminal and then run this command: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa it will ask for your root password, then update your sources list either with update-manager, Synaptic or apt-get from terminal: sudo apt-get update && upgrade
