Are you trying to run applications with a different user? Try using "xhost +" with the user you logged in so the other user can access the X server (works in gnu/linux at least). To workaround the mono/.net issue use "winetricks dotnet20", you can download winetricks from http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks.
