I would prefer not to do it because it means reinstalling the games, libs, etc under prefixes Who said it to you that with Wine reinstalling you need to reinstall all the games and the applications? :) Just save your default prefix (if all your games is there), easy way to do it - rename it. And with the home/username/.wine - default prefix, when Wine will be reinstalled, just replace your home/username/.wine with that saved (remove the new one default prefix and rename old one to its usual name). No matter which version of Wine you'll have after (in usr/bin(libs) directories), it doesn't affect on prefixes.
