Use Wine when running OS from USB drive?

Can Wine be used when the Linux install is running from a bootable USB 
thumb drive?

I have a laptop that currently has Win7 on it and that cannot be changed 
since the machine is shared and another user needs programs that won't 
work through Wine at this time.
