I could reproduce that on NT4.

It seems that this error is generated when calling connect() on a non-blocking,
non-overlapped socket. I glanced through the Winsock docs again - 
couldn't find this documented anywhere. 

But setting the socket to overlapped mode helps. So with the 
following one-liner we should be fine.
