I notice the patch I submitted a couple of weeks ago has not made it to CVS, nor have there been any comments. I had a chance to discuss the 'missing drive' problem with Alan Cox this week. He confirmed that such accesses would inevitably be slow, and could offer no better solution than the kludge I adopted.
