Dear all,

We invite you to submit an abstract to our session â??Applications, advances
and challenges in tephrostratigraphyâ?? within Theme: 3. Volcanic processes
at the upcoming IAVCEI 2025 Scientific Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland
(June 29 â?? July 4).

Deadline for abstract submission is December 20, 2024. Abstract submission
form is available at https://on-line-form.eu/iavcei2025sa/abstracts/

Session: Applications, advances and challenges in tephrostratigraphy
Explosive volcanism is recorded as tephra layers in a wide range of
sedimentary environments (including ocean basins, continents, islands,
lakes, and peatlands) and at varying distances from the source (proximal,
medial, and distal settings). The study of tephra sequences requires a
combination of stratigraphic, geochemical and geochronological tools, and
is key to reconstruct eruption histories, ultimately helping to forecast
the timing, style and hazards of future volcanic eruptions. Primary tephra
layers and cryptotephras are also invaluable for multi-disciplinary
studies, allowing for the dating and correlation of volcanic events across
regions. However, the incompleteness of volcanic records, dating
inaccuracy, reworking, and inconclusive geochemical signatures (among other
factors) still represent major challenges in many tephra studies. This
session invites contributions on recent applications, advances and
challenges in the stratigraphy of individual volcanoes or volcanic regions,
and aims to stimulate discussions on new scientific findings and
methodologies in tephrostratigraphy.

Conveners:

Yours sincerely,
Adriano Pimentel, on behalf of the conveners
