Dear Colleagues,

Please consider submitting an abstract to our session, "Tapping into magmas
for the building blocks of the renewable energy infrastructure: from
petrogenesis to exploration," in Theme 4: Minerals for the energy
transition, at IAVCEI 2025 in Geneva Switzerland. The abstract submission
deadline is 20 December 2024 (online at
https://on-line-form.eu/iavcei2025sa/abstracts/
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://on-line-form.eu/iavcei2025sa/abstracts/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!a45pnxO047iQVA4KSeEJNSGQUi5Nut_XzrGY3ZAsMlVQmf7U0am9nrGLZjZVouWxJdQtMNmDWzXVc18IsaA1AHgB_A$>).
Please see session description below.

Session Title: Tapping into magmas for the building blocks of the renewable
energy infrastructure: from petrogenesis to exploration

Session Description:
The transition to a renewable energy economy requires an increased supply
of critical metals, including Li, Co, Ni, PGEs, Cu, and REEs, to build the
necessary infrastructure including wind turbines, solar panels, electric
vehicles, and energy storage. The projected steep increase in their demand
in coming decades necessitates an expansion of exploration activities and
the opening of new mines. A detailed understanding of the complex chemical
and physical processes occurring over varied timescales in magmatic systems
leading to ore formation has the potential to guide this exploration
effort. We invite contributions that explore the evolution of magmatic
systems and the genesis of their associated mineral deposits, and how such
knowledge can be effectively transferred into mineral exploration programs
globally using traditional and novel methods.
