Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce a session on Volcanic Degassing at the IAVCEI
2025 Scientific Assembly (June 29 to July 4, 2025). Please see the session
description below. Please submit your abstract by 20 December 2024. We look
forward to seeing you in Geneva!

Theme 3: Volcanic Processes

Session: Volcanic Degassing

Magmatic gases play a key role in volcanic activity, in volatile cycles on
Earth, and can impact atmospheric chemistry and global climate. This
session examines volatile degassing from exsolution to atmosphere and how
observations and models of gas emissions can inform processes controlling
volcanic activity. We welcome contributions describing petrologic and
physical degassing models that offer insights into volatile exsolution,
magma dynamics, critical redox behavior, and gas transport in magmatic
systems. Studies that help interpret measurements of volcanic gases as they
mix with the atmosphere and form chemically evolving plumes are equally
encouraged. Reports on advances in continuous geochemical monitoring are
warmly welcomed, as are contributions describing the development of novel
measurement techniques that offer new opportunities to probe volcanic
degassing from the ground, air, and space. Studies that apply gas
measurements, potentially combined with complimentary geophysical data, to
better understand subsurface processes or assist forecasts are of
particular interest.
