*IAVCEI Scientific Assembly 29 June-4 July 2025*

*Theme 3: Volcanic processes*

We invite submissions to our session " *The evolution of field measurements
in volcanology: from classical surveys to innovative instrumentation"*

Direct field observations and measurements are of paramount importance for
understanding primary and secondary volcanic hazards. They enable the
empirical characterization of volcanic phenomena and provide essential
benchmarks for developing analog, numerical, and theoretical models. These
models help unravel the underlying physical mechanisms and are crucial for
generating predictions to mitigate associated impacts. However, volcanic
processes are intrinsically unpredictable, highly variable, potentially
threatening to human health and field instruments, and often happen in
remote and hazardous environments, inhibiting field investigations. This
session seeks studies presenting *in situ *analysis of volcanic processes
obtained through classical field measurements and novel techniques
including instrumentation and communications in remote settings (autonomous
monitoring). We also invite contributions involving various types of models
and instruments, from ground-based sampling to drone-embedded devices,
which facilitate the study of volcanic processes.
