4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 From: "Belo, Julie" <jbelo@xxxxxxxxx> Dear colleagues, We are advertising a *3 year postdoc position* (deadline 30th September 2024) in volcanology within the framework of the ERC Synergy Project T-SECTOR (Testing Solid Earth Climate Connections Through Mid Ocean Ridge Time Series). Please circulate this email to anyone who may be interested. https://www.geomar.de/en/karriere/job-single-en/postdoc-wissenschaftlerin-m-w-d-vulkanologie-und-sedimentologie <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.geomar.de/en/karriere/job-single-en/postdoc-wissenschaftlerin-m-w-d-vulkanologie-und-sedimentologie__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!bjIIRR2pHMpr7lObQ6_n2QP_NY6KHhUuLPdwFcJPb7MvZevLO_Bqw-sFp_q8dGcAUZOmvbZ12OyyWI1V-5pG2FXcjQ$> *Project Description: *The ERC Synergy Grant T-SECTOR is a multidisciplinary enterprise to investigate the effects of sea-level changes on volcanism, hydrothermalism and crustal accretion at mid-ocean ridges (MOR) over the past 1.5 Ma. These time series studies will allow the unequivocal test of the influence of glacial cycles on MOR processes and will provide the first high-resolution time series of ocean ridge magmatism on a global scale, opening up a new frontier of scientific exploration. The project centers on multiple ship expeditions across reference MOR segments to conduct geophysical surveys, obtain off-axis sediment cores and igneous rocks from the neo-volcanic zones. The lowermost portions of the sediment cores are expected to contain sediment hosted glass (SHG) shards originating from past eruptions at the MOR. Through oxygen isotope stratigraphy of ambient foraminifera, the age of glass deposition is constrained allowing time series studies of MOR chemistry. *Job Description * - Performing geochemical and petrographic analysis on SHG and discrete tephra samples recovered from sediment gravity cores and seabed drilling. This comprises combined major and trace element, and volatile analyses of glasses and melt inclusions in phenocrysts by electron microprobe, LA-ICP-MS, FTIR and/or SIMS, glass shard and fluid bubble 2-D and 3-D shape analysis - Help organizing ship expeditions - Participation in T-SECTOR ship expeditions - Synthesis of the results from the three reference sites - Publication of project results in peer-reviewed journals and their presentation at scientific meetings. - Interaction with the entire T-SECTOR team to organize and scientifically advance the project as a whole - Contribution to project-related outreach activities and regular project reporting A full description of T-SECTOR can be found at: https://www.geomar.de/forschen/fb4/fb4-muhs/schwerpunkte/t-sector <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.geomar.de/forschen/fb4/fb4-muhs/schwerpunkte/t-sector__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!bjIIRR2pHMpr7lObQ6_n2QP_NY6KHhUuLPdwFcJPb7MvZevLO_Bqw-sFp_q8dGcAUZOmvbZ12OyyWI1V-5pfdNl4tg$> 4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 ------------------------------
