Her work in Hawai'i focused on the geochemistry, petrology, and modeling of the 1823 lava flow of KÄ«lauea Volcano. Andrea also worked on analog models to promote the geosciences in the Hawaiian Islands. In this webinar, Andrea will present her analog models of volcanic processes such as dike propagation and caldera collapse. These processes are typical in the Hawaiian Islands and have occurred during KÄ«lauea's eruptive record, and shaped the caldera that we see nowadays. The aim of this project is to connect local students with their surrounding landscapes. The models were used for outreach activities and school visits creating a visual impact that enhanced students' understanding and learning of volcanism in the Hawaiian islands.
