Applications are invited from an experienced *Volcano seismologist* *Duties:* The SAC is commissioned by the Overseas Territories and Polar Directorate (OTPD) of the UKâ??s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and works according to the Office of Science and Technology (OST) Code of Practice for Scientific Advisory Committees. The main responsibilities of the SAC are described by the following Terms of Reference (TORs): 1) to carry out an annual hazard and risk assessment of the volcano in cooperation with the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) and to report its findings to the UK Government (HMG) and the Government of Montserrat; 2) to provide scientific advice at a strategic level to HMG and the Government of Montserrat outside these regular assessments in co-operation with the MVO. 3) to provide independent advice on the scientific and technical operations of the MVO to ensure that the work matches the level of risk; 4) to provide scientific advice and assistance to the MVO as required by the MVO Director; 5) to offer advice on new developments that were not foreseen when the TORs were set up, and if appropriate make recommendations for changes to the TORs. SAC members are expected to attend an annual in-person hazard and risk assessment meeting on Montserrat usually in November which includes a formalised elicitation procedure. This yearâ??s meeting dates are 25-28th November and applicants should ensure they can be available then. In addition, the SAC committee will meet online as required. SAC Members have the responsibility to use their scientific judgement and expertise in accordance with the Terms of Reference. The composition of the SAC is reviewed annually. The FCDO (OTPD) will reimburse travel costs, hotel accommodation, meals and professional fees in full for the annual in-person meeting. *Profile:* Applicants are expected to have several years of experience and expertise in volcano seismology, focussed on assessing the hazards and risks of active volcanoes. In particular: 1) Several years of direct experience with, or in-depth knowledge of, volcano monitoring in a volcano observatory context; 2) Established expertise in volcano seismology, including techniques to analyse seismic data for better comprehension of volcanic systems, assessing volcanic unrest and eruptive activity; 3) Several years of direct experience with, or in-depth knowledge of, technology transfer (e.g. training courses or teaching) in the broad subject of volcano seismology.
