3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 From: Jacopo Selva <jacopo.selva@xxxxxxxx> PhD opportunity in volcanic hazard The PhD project will develop innovative research toward the multi-volcano multi-hazard quantification, with focus on the eruptive phenomena at the volcanoes of the Mediterranean area. The analysis will concentrate on the Italian volcanoes (Mt. Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei, Ischia, Stromboli, Vulcano, Lipari, Etna), for which an extensive literature already exists. The research activity will start by retrieving and analyzing eruptive data, identifying potential analogue volcanoes, and developing a statistical model for the long-term occurrence of the eruptions and of the individual eruptive phenomena. Then, the activity will concentrate in characterizing eruptive parameters to initialize the modelling of the volcanic processes through High Performance Computing techniques. The final goal will be the development of coherent probabilistic hazard models at the different volcanoes, in order to produce multi-source regional hazard models. The research activity will be carried out in a multi-disciplinary group at the University of Naples Federico II and at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), within the Doctoral course of National Interest in â??Earth processes and management of resources and Risks for a resilient societyâ?? organized by the University of Bari (Italy).
