Title of the Research: "Experimental and numerical modeling of large-scale granular flows" Duration: 2 years Total budget: 77,468â?¬ (38,734 â?¬ per year) Research activity: The activity will consist of large-scale experiments on granular flows using a state-of-the-art flume available at CamiLAB. The flume will be equipped with a hopper for the controlled release of up to 1 cubic meter the granular material. The research will focus on analysing the influence of the interplay between substrate roughness and particle grainsize on the bulk flow dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the potential pore pressure generation and dissipation. The experimental activity will be complemented by numerical modelling of the experiments in order to validate the most widely used simulation tools and possibly improve them with new knowledge gained in the experimental work. Eligibility: PhD in the involved Scientific Disciplinary Sectors, as long as it is related to the topic being advertised, or experience full-time in equivalent research for at least three years. Master's and/or post-graduate courses in the involved scientific sector; degree graduation topic of the thesis; scientific publications and attending conferences.
