The Department of Earth Sciences at Montana State University seeks to hire
a tenure-track Assistant Professor who works on the properties of critical
resources, including water and/or elemental migration, economic viability,
and the impact of these materials on the landscape (

This position will complement existing strengths in structural geology,
sedimentology and stratigraphy, igneous petrology and volcanology,
tectonics, and social impacts of resource extraction. Our department
consists of 14 tenure-track faculty, ~260 undergraduate majors, and ~45
graduate students (MS and PhD).

Review of applications will begin on *January 4, 2024* with an anticipated
start date of August 2024.


*Preferred qualifications include: *

   1. Evidence of effective teaching large-lower division classes,
   including use of emergent learning platforms, technologies, and techniques.
   2. Evidence for scholarly expertise in minerals, igneous, metamorphic,
   or geothermal systems.
   3. Evidence for scholarly expertise in experimental laboratory and/or
   field geology.
   4. Evidence of capacity to develop a teaching and research agenda
   appropriate to the land grant mission of Montana State University.
   5. Demonstrated commitment to supporting, promoting, and building an
   inclusive and culturally diverse campus environment.
