4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 From: Sally Gibson <sag20@xxxxxxxxx> We are seeking to appoint *2 Post-Doctoral researchers* on our exciting new NERC-funded multi-disciplinary project on *'The Influence of lithospheric structure and composition on the distribution of CO2-rich intraplate volcanism and rare-earth-element mineralisation (REE-LITH)'. * Both Post-Docs are fixed term (30 months, starting Feb 2024) and will be based at the University of Cambridge, working with Sally Gibson and Sergei Lebedev, and also with Earth Scientists from the Universities of Exeter (Sam Broom-Fendley), St Andrews (Will Hutchison), Madrid (Javier Fullea) and Bergen (Stephane Rondenay). Brief descriptions of the posts are as follows: * PETROLOGY & GEOCHEMISTRY* https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/43540/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!fVK32GsnrE03pES0KX0ABiuaH-w36JNnK9h2KN_GJ3sT7jT9ES33aTQQKj1DZo-tBH1jpAS0Fgqgt3vG$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/43540/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!enSvxf9SbfFagOCw3UrIeg22ef9ObMebJo5nALrXSH8WXhDnYVDyjpiu-Z5ew7a0p1ujkQEEf8iFMQ$> The successful candidate will undertake petrological investigations and geochemical analyses, together with numerical models, of CO2-rich intraplate volcanic rocks to place novel constraints on their origin, the evolution of continental lithosphere and REE mineralisation. â?¢ Expertise: Applicants for this PDRA must have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in petrology and geochemistry. Previous experience in petrology and geochemical analysis is required and a knowledge of numerical modelling of mantle-derived melts and REE/critical metal mineralisation is desirable. The research will involve use of sample preparation laboratories and state-of-the-art analytical facilities in Cambridge (e.g. EPMA, LA-ICP-MS, QEMSCAN). Samples exist in established collections and while fieldwork is not required by the project, there will be opportunities to take part if desired. All necessary training will be provided. â?¢ Enquiries concerning this research post can be sent to Sally Gibson (sally@xxxxxxxxxxxxx). Joint analysis of the geophysical data and models with intraplate volcanic rock data will yield novel inferences on their origin, on the long-term evolution of continental lithosphere and on REE mineralisation. â?¢ Expertise: Applicants for this PDRA must have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in seismology, geophysics or a related field. We are looking for a candidate with substantial experience in computing and programming. Previous experience in seismic imaging and thermodynamic inversion is desirable. â?¢ Enquiries concerning this research post can be sent to Sergei Lebedev (sl2072@xxxxxxxxx). Please quote reference LB39037 on your application and in any correspondence about this vacancy. The successful candidates will be highly motivated, have a strong publication record (commensurate with their career stage) and good communication skills. Attending and presenting results from REE-LITH at international conferences will be supported and encouraged. The successful applicants will be mentored and supported in developing their career and research interests by the Principal Investigator and University of Cambridge Postdoc Academy. *HOW TO APPLY & FURTHER INFORMATION* â?¢ Please visit https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/43540/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!fVK32GsnrE03pES0KX0ABiuaH-w36JNnK9h2KN_GJ3sT7jT9ES33aTQQKj1DZo-tBH1jpAS0Fgqgt3vG$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/43540/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!enSvxf9SbfFagOCw3UrIeg22ef9ObMebJo5nALrXSH8WXhDnYVDyjpiu-Z5ew7a0p1ujkQEEf8iFMQ$> or https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/43543/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!fVK32GsnrE03pES0KX0ABiuaH-w36JNnK9h2KN_GJ3sT7jT9ES33aTQQKj1DZo-tBH1jpAS0Fk3JLuwO$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/43543/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!enSvxf9SbfFagOCw3UrIeg22ef9ObMebJo5nALrXSH8WXhDnYVDyjpiu-Z5ew7a0p1ujkQEs7WDclw$> â?¢ Click the 'Apply online' button to register an account with our recruitment system and apply online. â?¢ Ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter and publications list in the upload section of the online application.
