5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5 From: Matteo Roverato <matteo.roverato@xxxxxxxx> Dear Colleagues, In view of the next *Cities on Volcanoes 12* held in Antigua, *Guatemala, in February 2024*, we would like to draw your attention to this interesting and multidisciplinary session: 103 (Theme 1) > Volcano geology and mapping for hazard assessment, risk and resource-management, and building cultural value of the territory This session will deal with examples of stratigraphic analysis, geological and structural mapping and chronological reconstructions of recent to active volcanoes as essential inputs for robust assessment of physical volcanology and modeling, hazard evaluation, geoarchaeology surveys, risk and resource-management, and building cultural appropriation of the territory. We aim to stress the importance of geological and stratigraphic studies in volcanic areas as the basis for understanding the eruptive behaviour and future volcanic activity. Also, weâ??d like to reinforce geological mapping as the main source of data for a multidisciplinary knowledge of the structure of a volcanic system representing the basis for analogical and numerical modelling of eruptive processes and providing information to describe the processes that control unrest dynamics. We also encourage multidisciplinary researches that integrate different geochronological, paleomagnetic, palaeoecological and archaeological methods to unravel the chronology of volcanic eruptions, particularly in recent to active volcanoes. Particular interest is given to the role of geological maps of volcanoes as fundamental tools for decision-making processes, and how to present the geological information in maps, and which information should be displayed, so that maps could be useful for stakeholders interested in hazard and environmental management, risk mitigation, land care, geo-cultural heritage, and sustainable development.
