The Department of Earth Sciences in the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences
and Technology (SOEST), University of HawaiÊ»i at MÄ?noa seeks to fill a
permanent faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate
Specialist in the area of Isotope Geochemistry.

We seek a talented and highly collaborative scientist with the capacity for
excellence in research and student mentorship to manage the operations of
the SOEST Isotope Laboratory, including a Nu TIMS (thermal ionization mass
spectrometer) and an associated cleanroom for the separation and
purification of trace elements from geological materials. The Specialist
will conduct independent or collaborative research, develop new analytical
methods, and pursue extramural funding in isotope geochemistry and related
fields. Day-to-day duties of the position include routine maintenance,
troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and equipment, procurement
of goods and services to support the operation of the laboratory, and
compliance with the chemical and radiation safety protocols of the
University of Hawaiʻi. The ability to advise and train undergraduate and
graduate students in a laboratory environment is a key aspect of this
position. The successful candidate will produce scholarly work to present
at professional meetings and/or in peer-reviewed publications, individually
or in collaboration with students and other faculty. All of the above will
be done in keeping with the best practices for an institution that serves a
culturally diverse student body, including a large number of Native
Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. A willingness to engage with faculty,
