2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 From: Pablo Samaniego <pablo.samaniego@xxxxxx> "Fire of Love" scholarships in memory of Maurice and Katia Krafft : Call for applications We are launching a call for research projects in volcanology for young researchers (PhD/Master students, Volcano Observatories staff, etc.) coming from developing countries and working on a project linked with the volcanoes located in these countries. The research project may address either fundamental questions on magmatic and volcanic processes to improve our understanding of how volcanoes work, or more applied questions devoted to the assessment of hazards and risks associated with active volcanoes. The grant will be awarded to come and carry out a stay at the â??Laboratoire Magmas and Volcansâ?? (LMV, Université Clermont Auvergne-CNRS-IRD), where the selected candidates will benefit from the volcanological expertise and the technical and analytical means of the laboratory. The financial support will be used to cover the costs of transport and accommodation, and the analytical costs. The maximum grant amount will be 5000 â?¬ for a maximum stay duration of two months (during the period from September 2023 to the end of 2024). Interested candidates should prepare an application file including a curriculum vitae, a scientific project (4 pages maximum), and an independent recommendation letter from the studentâ??s advisor or from the employer (Volcano Observatory Director, etc.). All this information should be merged into a single pdf. We recommend the interested candidates to contact an LMV member to mentor them during their stay at LMV. The person to contact for questions and for the submission of the research project proposals is Dr. Pablo Samaniego (pablo.samaniego@xxxxxx). Application should be submitted before July 31, 2023. Applications will be evaluated by an international panel, who will prepare a short-list with several candidates that will be evaluated during a short informal interview via video conference means (during September 2023). The final responses will be communicated to awardees at the end of September 2023. This award is made possible in part due to funding from the team behind Disney+â??s recent National Geographic Documentary Films release â??Fire of Love.â?? This film is a commemoration of the intrepid life of Maurice and Katia Krafft, two French volcanologists who dedicated their lives to documenting exceptional images of volcanic eruptions in order to understand volcanic processes as well as to effectively communicate the powerful and dangerous nature of potential volcanic hazards. â??Fire of Love'' has received a number of awards with monetary prizes. The filmmakers wanted to donate their prize money instead to celebrate the Krafftsâ?? legacy and continue their important work. The Producers and Director of the film contacted the â??Laboratoire Magmas et Volcansâ??, a scientific laboratory internationally renowned for its work in volcanology, with the idea to distribute this award to help young researchers in developing countries to pursue their research on volcanoes. 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 ------------------------------
