3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 From: Federico Casetta <federico.casetta@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Dear colleagues, We would like to draw you attention to Session P58 "Unveiling the evolution of the oceanic and continental lithosphere through the study of mantle rocks, primary melts and crustal sections" that will be held at the SIMP-SGI-SOGEI-AIV Conference (Potenza, Italy, 19-21 September 2023). Conveners: Federico Casetta (University of Vienna), Carlotta Ferrando (University of Genova), Arianna Secchiari (University of Milan - Statale) Keynote speaker: Vincenzo Stagno (University of Rome - Sapienza) "Mantle redox heterogeneities revealed by the investigation of inclusions in (sub)lithospheric diamonds" Session description: The investigation of tectonically exposed mantle to crust sequences and xenoliths offers a unique glimpse into the composition and evolution of the Earth's lithosphere. Petrological and geochemical studies have unambiguously proven the heterogeneous nature of the lithospheric mantle, both in oceanic and continental settings. The strong architectural variability of the lithosphere results from a complex interplay between melt extraction, metasomatism/refertilization, and deformation. Field geology, petrology, geochemistry, and thermodynamic modelling are essential and complementary tools for deciphering the evolution of the lithospheric mantle, as well as understanding the processes that shape the lithosphere and how they affect the composition of mantle-derived primitive melts. This session will bring together multidisciplinary studies linking micro-scale observations to large-scale geodynamic processes, with the aim of exploring the physicochemical state and dynamics of the lithosphere, the processes related to melts/fluids infiltration within the Earth's upper mantle, and the genesis and transport of primitive melts to the surface. We welcome contributions focused on modern and fossil oceanic lithosphere analogues, orogenic peridotites, mantle-derived xenoliths from oceanic and continental (off-cratonic and cratonic) settings, primary mantle-derived magmas, and experimental samples. The abstract submission deadline is 6th May 2023, 19.00 CET.
