Volcanism supplies sedimentary deposits in both continental and
subaqueous sequences of fossil and modern Sediment Routing Systems in
the Solar system. Volcaniclastic deposits are produced in a relatively
short time and are characterized by a wide range of facies, textures,
mineral assemblages and compositions, thus representing markers in
provenance studies, namely processes from the source to the sink.
Provenance studies of volcaniclastic sediments require a
multidisciplinary approach from field, laboratory, and drilling
investigations, stressing the role of petrology, mineralogy and
geochemistry and claiming for experiments and modellings. This session
welcomes contributions on multidisciplinary researches that merge
mineralogical, petrological and geochemical investigations with
experimental and modelling studies and sedimentological,
stratigraphical, and geomorphological data in every fossil and modern
basin systems. The contributions are also extended to sedimentation
processes on other planetary surfaces which can be considered as
possible terrestrial analogues. This session is an opportunity to
increase our understanding and broadening of the relationships among
volcaniclastic sedimentation and (paleo)geography, (paleo)climate and
geodynamic settings, as very important tools in reconstructing both the
Earth's stratigraphic history and in an assessment of potential severe
volcanic hazard in modern volcanically-impacted active settings.

Keywords: Volcaniclastic sedimentation, Sediment Routing System,
provenance, geodynamic settings.
